Exposure visit to Banyan

The MSW S1 students recently completed their field‑work visit to The Banyan, a Chennai‑based organization dedicated to supporting marginalized women and children, where they were introduced to the diverse programs that blend mental‑health care, livelihood training, and community outreach. During the session, the students witnessed first‑hand how social workers engage with survivors of abuse, facilitate therapeutic groups, and coordinate rehabilitation efforts, and they learned about the organization’s holistic approach that links clinical services with advocacy and policy work. The experience was profoundly moving; several students were brought to tears by the resilience of the individuals they met and the depth of impact that compassionate social work can have on vulnerable lives. This powerful exposure highlighted the broad scope of social work in mental‑health and community development, opened their eyes to potential career pathways they had not previously considered, and left the group with a renewed knowledge
