Shalom Media Award-Winning Author, Educationist, Journalist, and Academic Leader

Fr. Dr. Francis Karackat, SDB, is a distinguished educationist, journalist, academic leader, and one of Kerala’s most prolific motivational and value-based writers. Honoured with the prestigious Shalom Media Award for Best Inspiring Writer in Malayalam, he has made a lasting impact on higher education, journalism, literature, and character formation through his multifaceted contributions as a scholar, author, editor, and educational administrator.

A highly accomplished academic, he secured First Rank in B.A. English Language and Literature and First Rank in Master of Communication and Journalism (MCJ) before earning his Doctorate in Journalism from the University of Kerala. Over the years, he has emerged as a respected voice in media studies, education, youth development, family life, leadership, spirituality, and value-based living.

As the author of 33 acclaimed books, many of which became bestsellers, Fr. Dr. Karackat has inspired generations of students, teachers, parents, and readers. His publications, spanning education, media studies, family life, personality development, spirituality, leadership, and social transformation, are widely appreciated for their practical wisdom, contemporary relevance, and ethical vision. Currently serving as the Director of Don Bosco College, Kottiyam, Kollam, he previously served as the Principal of Don Bosco Arts & Science College, Angadikadavu, where he provided visionary leadership and guided the institution toward academic excellence, holistic education, and value-centred formation. A pioneer in journalism education under Kannur University, he played a significant role in establishing and strengthening programmes in Journalism and Mass Communication.

His academic leadership was recognized through his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication, Kannur University, for three terms, during which he contributed substantially to curriculum development, academic innovation, and quality enhancement in media education.

Dr. Karackat qualified the UGC-NET in Journalism and Mass Communication and gained professional exposure through his association with The Hindu and the Press Trust of India (PTI). His doctoral research on Ethics in Newspaper Journalism in Kerala, conducted under the guidance of the renowned media scholar Dr. J. V. Vilanilam, further established his credentials as a scholar of media ethics and communication.

For nearly two decades, he served as the Chief Editor of Don Bosco Magazine, shaping public discourse through insightful writings on education, culture, media, youth, and society. He has also represented educational institutions and academic forums at international conferences and programmes in countries including Italy, France, Thailand, and Rome.

Throughout his distinguished career as priest, scholar, author, journalist, editor, and administrator, Fr.
